For 17 years we've been installing, repairing and servicing air conditioners across Johannesburg — and in that time we've learned that the industry's real problem isn't technical. It's that nobody phones back.
Rapid Airconditioning is a small, owner-run team. When you book, your job goes to one of our own SAQCC-registered technicians in a branded vehicle — not to whichever subcontractor happened to answer first. We carry stock of the parts that fail most often, which is why the majority of our repairs are finished on the first visit rather than the third.
We work on every major brand, and we'll tell you honestly when a unit is worth repairing and when you're better off replacing it. That answer costs us money about a third of the time. We give it anyway.

Not cooling? Leaking water onto the carpet? Rattling like a cement mixer at 2am? Most faults come down to one of four things — low refrigerant, a failed capacitor, a blocked drain line or a dying fan motor — and we carry all four on the van. We diagnose on site, quote before we touch anything, and only proceed once you say yes.

A lot of the "aircon companies" you'll find online are advertising portals that sell your details to whichever contractor pays for them. You never know who's coming. With us, the person who quotes you is the person who does the work, and their name is on the job card.
Refrigerant is a controlled substance and the law is clear about who may handle it. Our technicians are registered, our vehicles are insured, and we can produce both on request.
The manufacturer warranty covers the unit. Our guarantee covers our work. If an installation we did fails because of how we did it, we come back at our cost. In writing.
No "it depends." We publish our callout fee, our service rates and our installation packages before you phone. You will not be surprised.

WhatsApp a photoFor a standard residential split unit, budget roughly R9 000–R25 000 for the unit and R2 500–R5 000 for a straightforward installation. Price moves with unit size, brand, inverter vs non-inverter, and how far the outdoor unit sits from the indoor one. Our on-site assessment and quote are free, and the quoted number is the number you pay.
Roughly 600–650 BTU per square metre for a typical insulated room, adjusted upward for west-facing windows, high ceilings, or a room full of people or equipment. As a rough guide: a 15–18m² bedroom usually wants 9 000 BTU, a 25m² room 12 000 BTU, and a 35m² open-plan lounge 18 000 BTU. Oversizing is not "safer" — an oversized unit short-cycles, never dehumidifies properly, and dies young. We measure before we recommend.
The four usual suspects are low refrigerant from a leak, a failed capacitor, a filthy filter or coil, and a dying compressor. The first three are routine repairs. The fourth is usually the end of the road for an older unit. We'll tell you which one you're facing before you spend anything.
Almost always a blocked condensate drain line — dust and algae build up and the water backs up into the room instead of running outside. It's a quick clean, and it's one of the cheapest calls we do. Left alone, it will damage your ceiling.
Every 12 months for a home. Every 6 months for offices, restaurants, salons and anywhere with heavy dust or long running hours. Skipping services is the single most common reason units fail years before they should.
A modern inverter unit costs far less to run than the older fixed-speed machines people remember. It's also cheaper to heat a room with an aircon in winter than with an electric bar heater — the heat pump moves heat rather than generating it. A neglected, undersized or overworked unit, on the other hand, will absolutely punish you.

Legally, yes — anyone handling refrigerant gas must be SAQCC Gas registered. Practically, it matters even more: an unregistered installation can void your manufacturer's warranty entirely. Ask any company for their registration. Ask us for ours.
