Aircon servicing
Krugersdorp
Out on the western edge of Gauteng, the air is drier, dustier and the open veld is closer. Krugersdorp aircons work in tougher conditions than most people realise — and they need servicing on a schedule that reflects it.
Local overview
Krugersdorp — the heart of Mogale City — sits at the western edge of the province, where the suburbs thin out into smallholdings, game farms and the approaches to the Cradle of Humankind. It's a fine place to live and a hard place to be an air conditioner.
The reason is dust. Properties in Noordheuwel, Rangeview, Silverfields, Chancliff and particularly out towards Muldersdrift and the plots pull an extraordinary volume of fine, dry veld dust through their condenser coils. It's invisible until you shine a torch through the fins and find you can't see light.
Add the newer estate developments around Featherbrooke, the town's commercial core and its light industrial areas, and you have a varied workload in genuinely demanding conditions.
The local picture
Nothing exotic. Just a slow, expensive strangulation of your condenser.
A condenser rejects heat by passing air across closely spaced aluminium fins. Pack those fins with dust and the airflow drops; the refrigerant can't reject its heat; head pressure rises; the compressor works harder and draws more current for less cooling. You pay for that every month on your electricity bill, long before anything fails. Then eventually something does.
Out towards Muldersdrift and the plots, the dust load is relentless — and units at ground level in an open yard are the worst affected. We recommend shorter service intervals here as a matter of course, and we say so in writing rather than surprising you with it later.
Newer, larger homes with open-plan living areas and generous glazing. Same story as Gauteng's other estate developments: cassettes and multi-splits do the job properly where a single wall head cannot, and HOA rules govern where the condenser may go.
Krugersdorp's established suburbs have conventional housing and ageing units, and the work there is repairs, servicing and straight-talking replacement advice.
What we're called out for here
More servicing than anywhere else we work — because it's needed more here than anywhere else we work.

Regassing & leaksHomes
If you live in Krugersdorp and you take one thing from this page, make it this: service your aircon more often than the manual says. The manufacturer's interval was written for average conditions, and the western edge of Gauteng is not average conditions.
A coil clean here is not a cosmetic exercise. It restores the machine's ability to reject heat, which restores its cooling capacity, which lowers its running cost and extends its life. We've seen units in Muldersdrift that had lost half their capacity purely to fouling — and got most of it back in an afternoon.
Beyond that, the work is conventional: correctly sized installations, honest repairs, and a straight answer when a unit has come to the end of its useful life.
Business & industry
Krugersdorp's commercial life — retail, offices, workshops, light industry and the hospitality that serves the Cradle tourism route — runs on the same equipment as everywhere else, in dirtier air and often with longer hours.
We maintain systems across the area on scheduled contracts, with intervals set to your specific site rather than copied from a manual. For businesses running several units, that predictability is worth a good deal more than a slightly cheaper reactive callout.
Installations and disruptive work get scheduled outside trading hours, as they should be.
Faults we see locally
Almost always the same root cause, wearing different clothes.
The defining fault of this area. It doesn't announce itself — it just slowly strangles the machine, raising your electricity bill for a year or two before the compressor finally objects.
Which is what a blocked coil produces. The failure feels sudden. It wasn't.
Fine grit finds its way into bearings. A fan that's begun to whine is telling you it hasn't got long, and it's cheaper to replace it now than to replace it plus whatever it takes with it.
The familiar Gauteng story — a single wall head asked to condition a double-volume open-plan living space it was never going to manage.

FAQs
What Mogale City residents and businesses ask us.
Phone us or send a photo of the unit on WhatsApp. We'll tell you what we think it is before we get in the van.
Ask us a questionBecause the air is dustier. Krugersdorp sits at the edge of the province, close to open veld and smallholdings, and fine dry dust travels a long way. It settles between the fins of the condenser coil and progressively blocks the airflow the unit needs to reject heat. It's a gradual process, which is exactly why it goes unnoticed.
More often than the manual suggests. For most homes we'd recommend annually as an absolute minimum, and for properties on smallholdings or near open ground, twice a year is genuinely justified. We'll show you the coil and let you decide — we're not interested in selling services you don't need.
Substantially. A blocked coil forces the compressor to work against higher pressure for less cooling, so it runs longer and draws more current. You pay for that every month, and you pay for it silently — nothing looks wrong until the unit eventually fails.
Yes. Expect us to recommend a shorter service interval out there, and expect us to mean it — plot properties have the heaviest dust load we deal with anywhere in Gauteng.
We do. Estate rules on outdoor units are familiar territory — send us the HOA guidelines with your enquiry and we'll design the installation to comply from the outset.
Not a cover, no — a condenser needs airflow, and wrapping it is the worst thing you could do. Shade is helpful; enclosure is harmful. If dust is the issue, the answer is regular cleaning, not a barrier.
