Servicing neglected units
The highest-value thing we do here. A proper clean often restores performance people thought was gone for good.
Aircon servicing
Brakpan
Brakpan is practical, unpretentious and full of solid family homes with aircons that have been running for years without anyone paying them much attention. That's fixable — and it's usually cheaper to fix than people expect.
Local overview
Brakpan doesn't do pretension, and neither will we. The housing here is solid and practical — Dalpark, Brenthurst, Kenleaf, Sonneveld and the older streets around the town centre — mostly freestanding family homes, mostly with wall-mounted split units that were fitted some years ago and have been quietly getting on with it ever since.
The commercial side is modest: retail, small offices, workshops, and the hospitality clustered around Carnival City, which runs conditioned space at scale and for long hours.
What Brakpan customers consistently tell us they want is simple: someone who arrives, tells the truth about what's wrong, charges what they said they would, and doesn't try to sell a new machine when a R600 part would have done. That's not a difficult brief.
The local picture
Not much drama. Mostly neglect, and mostly reversible.
The most common thing we find on a first visit is simply years of accumulated dirt. The owner has assumed the unit "isn't very strong any more". It is — it just can't breathe. A proper coil clean, filter replacement and drain flush frequently restores performance that people had written off entirely, for a fraction of what a replacement would cost.
A good deal of Brakpan's air conditioning is a decade or more old and fixed-speed rather than inverter. When one of those needs a compressor, the honest answer is usually replacement — the new inverter will use meaningfully less electricity and come with a fresh warranty. We do that arithmetic with you and we don't push either way.
The bread-and-butter faults: blocked condensate lines putting water on the floor, failed capacitors leaving the fan spinning while the compressor won't start, and worn fan motors that have been getting noisier for months.
Long hours, heavy occupancy, and systems that cannot be worked on during trading. After-hours servicing is the only sensible approach.
What we're called out for here
Honest, unglamorous work — repairs, services, and replacements only when they're genuinely justified.

If we could give Brakpan one piece of advice, it would be this: before you spend money replacing an aircon that "doesn't cool like it used to", let someone service it properly. In a genuinely large proportion of the units we open here, the machine is fine — it's just been strangled by a decade of dust.
A full service — both coils cleaned, filters replaced, drain flushed, gas pressures checked, electricals tested — costs a small fraction of a new unit and frequently transforms performance. If it doesn't, at least you'll know the machine really has come to the end, and you'll be making the replacement decision with facts rather than guesswork.
That's the whole philosophy, really: spend your money where it does something.
Business & industry
Commercial Brakpan is retail, small offices, workshops and the hospitality venues around Carnival City — the last of which run conditioned space through long, busy hours with heavy occupancy, which is a demanding duty cycle.
We service and maintain across all of it, scheduling work outside trading hours as a matter of course. For premises running several units, a maintenance contract is almost always cheaper than the emergency callouts it replaces, and it means somebody is checking the drain lines before they flood a ceiling above a customer.
Faults we see locally
Familiar, fixable, and mostly the result of nobody having looked at the thing in years.
Number one, by a distance. Not dramatic, not sudden — just a slow loss of capacity that owners get used to until it becomes unbearable.
Water on the floor, usually in the first big storm of the season, always from a condensate line that has never been flushed.
Hard restarts are hard on capacitors. They're inexpensive, we carry them, and replacing one before it fails is far cheaper than an emergency callout in January.
Ten to fifteen years of honest work, and then that's it. We'll tell you straight when that's what we're looking at.

FAQs
What Brakpan customers ask before they let anyone through the door.
Phone us or send a photo of the unit on WhatsApp. We'll tell you what we think it is before we get in the van.
Ask us a questionVery possibly not. In a great many of the units we open in Brakpan, the machine is fundamentally sound and has simply been strangled by years of dust in the coils. A full service costs a small fraction of a replacement and frequently restores the performance people assumed was gone. If it doesn't, you'll know the unit really is finished — and you'll be deciding with facts.
No. If a repair or a service will fix your problem, that's what we'll quote for. We turn down replacement work regularly — it's the least profitable thing we say, and it's the reason people phone us again.
We'll quote the callout fee before we dispatch, so you know it upfront. It covers the technician's time and the on-site diagnosis, and it isn't discovered at the end of the visit. If you'd rather not proceed after the diagnosis, that's the end of it.
It's telling you something is electrically wrong — usually a failing capacitor, a shorted compressor winding or genuine earth leakage. Repeatedly resetting the breaker and hoping is the worst possible response. Switch it off at the isolator and phone us.
Yes — shops, offices, workshops and hospitality venues. We schedule the work outside your trading hours, because a technician on a ladder in a busy venue helps nobody.
All of them, along with Kenleaf, Withok, Anzac and the rest of Brakpan. We'll give you an honest slot when you phone.
